As a facial cosmetic surgeon, I have seen many patients come to me with concerns about the appearance of their nose. Some are unhappy with the results of a previous surgical rhinoplasty, while others are looking for a less invasive option to improve the shape and contours of their nose. This is where non-surgical nose surgery, also known as liquid rhinoplasty, comes into play. One of the most common questions I receive from patients is whether or not nose sculpting is permanent. The answer is yes and no.
Let me explain. The most durable filler for the nose is the only permanent medical-grade liquid silicone filler marketed as Silikon-1000. This filler will be with you for your entire life, unlike other temporary fillers that need to be redone every few months. However, this does not mean that the results of non-surgical nose surgery are completely permanent. During the consultation, I always make sure to explain post-treatment advice in detail and send an email immediately after treatment. This ensures that my patients are in good hands during and after the procedure.
While there may be some redness and swelling at the injection site, these side effects usually go away within 24 to 48 hours and can easily be covered with makeup. Unlike surgical treatment, there is no risk of infection, bleeding, or prolonged healing with non-surgical nose surgery. This makes it a practical aesthetic procedure for those who want to make minor adjustments without the risks associated with surgery.
The Process
The process of non-surgical nose surgery involves filling in depressed areas of the nose, softening the appearance of bumps, raising the angle of the tip, and balancing the shape of the nose. This can help correct specific nose problems, such as a small bump in the bridge or a crooked nose. The non-surgical approach may be appropriate when there are shallower imperfections or the nose isn't too big for the face. However, if you are looking for a drastic and permanent change in your appearance, non-surgical nasal treatment may not be the best option for you.The Brands
There are several well-known brands of dermal fillers used for non-surgical nose surgery, including Revolax, Juvederm, and Restylane. These fillers are injected into specific areas of the nose to achieve the desired results.
The Procedure
The procedure for non-surgical nose surgery is relatively quick and most patients experience minimal pain and few side effects. The first step is to take medical-grade photographs and the second is to apply an anesthetic cream to the skin. This ensures that the patient is comfortable during the procedure. During the treatment, I examine the outside of the nose by areas and zones. This allows me to make precise adjustments and gives the patient the opportunity to observe their nose and give their opinion during the treatment.Since they are awake and without anesthesia, they can have more control over the final result.
Permanent Results?
As mentioned earlier, while the filler used in non-surgical nose surgery is permanent, this does not mean that the results are completely permanent. The appearance of your nose can change over time due to factors such as skin type and desired results. On average, results can last anywhere from 4 months to 3 years. If you are not satisfied with the appearance or shape of your nose, whether it's due to asymmetry, a dorsal hump, or a wide tip, I recommend considering non-surgical rhinoplasty or surgical rhinoplasty. Both options have their own advantages and disadvantages, which I will address below. The Pros and Cons
Non-surgical nose surgery has many advantages, including minimal pain, quick recovery time, and the ability to make minor adjustments without the risks associated with surgery. However, it also has its disadvantages, such as the need for touch-ups every few months and the possibility of the filler shifting over time. Surgical rhinoplasty, on the other hand, has more permanent results and can address more complex nose issues. However, it also comes with a longer recovery time, potential risks and complications, and a higher cost.
